Nothing like a homemade pizza to make me feel better! That’s right folks, crust and sauce are 100% all me.
Bring on the bacon!
(Picasso’s pizza in Williamsville, NY. One of my favorites!)
Today’s special at The Sonoma Grille in Amherst, NY: filet minon with Roquefort cheese and pan seared sea scallops; paired with steamed asparagus and smashed garlic potatoes. Finishing off the dish is a wine demi glace.
I can’t remember the last time I cleared my plate. The scallops were seared to perfection, and the filet was cooked to a semi-toasty medium. Hats off to executive chef Sam, former head chef at ASA Ransom House in Clarence, NY.
Tomato mozzarella soup @ Hollow Bistro and Brew
The soup was creamy and delicious, as is all of their soups I’ve had.
Chicken Tacos @ Bungalow Bar & Grill. Good tacos, flavorful meat with just the right amount of cheese. I also ordered the grilled cheese, which hit the spot more for some reason.
Pecan pie with salted caramel gelato @ The Roaring Fork. There was a lot more chocolate in the pecan pie than I would have liked, but it was still good. The gelato could have used some of the chocolate in the pecan pie, having only came across two or three small salted caramel chunks. Overall, flavorful dessert.
Cedar Planked Salmon @ The Roaring Fork. Cooked medium to perfection, this salmon had a hint of the plank it was cooked on with a nice barbecue glaze on top. Dipped in the teriyaki sauce on the side was when all of the elements pulled together nicely.
Alaskan Halibut in a piccata sauce (lemon, butter, white wine and capers) @ The Italian Grotto. I took a bite out of it before I took the picture, it looked really good! But alas, it fell short of my expectations. The piccata sauce was a bit salty, the Halibut was overcooked so it was the consistency of chicken, and it was swimming in sauce. However, the waiter we had was very courteous, the lighting was just right, and the Tiramisu was the best I’ve had in a while. I’m blaming the failure of this dish on it being a special; it seemed like it was cooked ahead of time. I give this dish a 2/10, and the overall experience a 6/10.
Half pepperoni & sausage/half mushrooms and Bell peppers @ Streets of NY Pizza. It was surprisingly good! Being from Buffalo, I’m used to pizza that is between a NY style and a Chicago style. This was pretty close 8.5/10.
Red velvet cupshake @ The Sweet Tooth Fairy. One red velvet cupcake made in house blended with vanilla ice cream. It was super thick, so a straw was out of the question (unless you wanted to turn your face inside out), but it was delicious. The cupcake was blended perfectly with the ice cream, and there was only minuscule amounts of cupcakes pieces. I don’t go to a lot of chain restaurant/dessert places if I can help it, but I’m a fan of this place. 9/10.
